Roja Dove Elysium Pour Homme Review

When it comes to niche perfume houses, each perfumery has its single best iconic creation. For Roja Parfums that’s without doubt Elysium Pour Homme Eau de Parfum (EDP). And while the perfumer behind most fragrances aren’t that visible, that’s certainly not the case for this fragrance. Pour Homme is crafted by Roja Dove himself, with an incredible resume featuring 20 years at Guerlain. During his time at renown perfume house, he was appointed as a Global Ambassador of Guerlain, the first time ever for a non-family member.

In this review, we’ll explore Roja’s Pour Homme (EDP) from the esteemed Elysium Collection, dissect its unique fragrance notes, and share insights on when and where to wear this exquisite scent. We’ll also compare it with similar fragrances, offering you a comprehensive guide to the Elysium Pour Homme.

Note: Pour Homme Eau de Parfum is also often called Parfum Cologne, though they’re the same thing.

Roja London’s Elysium Collection

Elysium Pour Homme Review

After Roja’s career at Guerlian he opened is own perfume store stocking fragrances from many different brands, while also creating bespoke fragrances in collaboration with museums (e.g. Victoria and Albert Museum), fashion labels, department stores, and whisky brands (e.g. Macallan).

In 2011, he launched is own brand called Roja London, and continued pushing the boundaries of perfumery. 6 years later, he launched the Elysium Collection and Elysium Pour Homme was received with incredible enthusiasm. ‘Elysium’ means paradise. It’s a fitting name for a collection that invites fragrance lovers to experience a personal utopia through scent.

According to Roja Parfums: “Those who wear Elysium are encouraged to forge their own path, creating a world where they command nature with their presence. This empowerment is deeply embedded in the essence of Elysium, making it a fragrance for those who dare to define paradise in their own terms.

Pour Homme Fragrance Notes

Elysium Pour Homme fragrance notes

We recently tried Elysium Pour Homme, and we have to say, it’s an incredible blend of fresh, woody, and aromatic notes that stands out. The top notes hit us first with a vibrant mix of citrus and herbs—think Lemon, Bergamot, and a hint of Lavender. It’s quite an energetic and invigorating opening. Yet, it feels sophisticated at the same time, which we believe is due the faint musky top note.

As it settles, the heart of the fragrance unfolds beautifully. We love how the floral notes of Lily of the Valley and Rose de Mai mingle with the fruity sweetness of Apple and Blackcurrant. This combination adds a juicy richness that really enhances the overall scent, creating a lovely balance between the lively top notes and the deeper, more grounded base.

Speaking of the base, it’s where things get really interesting. The rich tapestry of Galbanum, Pink Pepper, and a hint of Leather gives it a seductive masculinity that lingers long after we’ve applied it. We absolutely appreciate how all these elements come together to create a scent that feels both dynamic and deep.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

If you already own Elysium Pour Homme, you might also appreciate Alexandria Fragrances’ Zion, Hugo Boss’ Hugo Reversed, Soir Parfums Vintage’s Evolution De L’Homme, and Olfactive Studio’s Flash Back, all featuring the aromatic, citrus and woody accords. However, we think Elysium Pour Homme stands out due to its animalic element, that’s missing in the alternatives mentioned.

If you want the fragrance to last all day, we recommend getting Pour Homme Parfum, which offers a higher concentration, and thus, better longevity and sillage.

Overall, Elysium Pour Homme deserves to be regarded as an iconic men’s perfume to us. It strikes a good balance between masculinity and elegance. It’s unique, yet doesn’t smell super niche, which makes it a safe and yet classy choice for most occasions. It’s fresh and vibrant character makes it particularly ideal for daytime wear, whether you’re heading to the office, meeting friends for brunch, or enjoying a leisurely weekend outing. The citrus and floral notes provide an uplifting aura that complements casual and professional settings alike. While it can also be a great evening perfume in the summer season, we wouldn’t recommend it for the evenings during the other seasons.
