Luxury fragrance brands like Diptyque, Jo Malone London, and Le Labo offer a range of solid perfumes. But should you get them? Solid perfumes, as the name suggests, are creamy bars or balms made with fragrance oils, natural oils, and wax.
The origin of solid perfumes can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians. Popular designer and niche brands have helped bring solid perfumes into the limelight recently, offering their hero fragrances in both solid and liquid form.
How to wear solid perfumes
The act of wearing solid perfume feels more intentional since it is more tactile and textural.

- Rub your fingers over any solid perfume of your choice.
- Warm up the product in between your fingers to enhance its spreadability.
- Dab it onto your pulse points.
If you choose to spray on a coordinating fragrance, the layer of solid perfume will enhance its longevity.
Do note that you should store solid perfumes at normal room temperature. If exposed to extreme temperature changes, they may dry up and lose their scent or melt into a runny puddle.
Pros of wearing solid fragrance
1) Portable::
Solid perfumes are usually compact and easy to carry around. They are not prone to spillage, leakage, or breakage. You can reapply your fragrance throughout the day without any worries. Even better? You can carry around a few solid perfumes and switch out your fragrance of the day every few hours!
2) Better for sensitive skin:
Solid perfumes, being alcohol-free and chock-full of moisturizing oils and wax, are kinder to the skin. They are usually made with healing and protective natural ingredients that help keep itchiness, dryness, and dullness at bay.
3) Long-lasting fragrance:
Solid perfumes tend to last fairly long on the skin because they don’t contain alcohol, which evaporates quickly.
4) Sustainable:
Most solid perfumes come in environmentally friendly packaging, such as metal tins. These are often refillable and recyclable. The best part is you can use up the perfume all the way to the end.

Cons of wearing solid fragrance
1) Less projection:
Solid perfumes generally have less sillage compared to their liquid counterparts since the scent does not get a lift from the alcohol solvent.
2) Limited Variety:
While solid perfumes are becoming more popular by the day, they cannot match up to the variety available in liquid perfumes.
3) Lack of complexity:
You may find that solid perfumes have simpler compositions and the scent doesn’t noticeably evolve.
Conclusion
For those of us who unabashedly love fragrance, liquid and solid perfumes are equally appealing. No perfume type is inherently better than the other; the choice primarily comes down to how the wearer feels about the wax base.
Solid perfumes are definitely worth splurging on if you want to give your skin an extra dose of moisture, reapply your fragrance throughout the day, and do your bit to help the environment.
