Stéphane Humbert Lucas founded his eponymous brand to facilitate freedom of expression as a creator. It is a way for him to practice his artistic sensibility without limitations. He allows his creativity to take its own direction without accommodating marketing concessions.
Humbert, a painter and poet, formally studied art in the South of France, where he specialized in the tempera technique. At the time, he realized that he associated every color with a scent because he experienced synesthesia. As he developed his perfume practice, he continued to play around with combining principles of art and perfumery. He sums up his philosophy as follows:
“I don’t invent scents; I rearrange them and invite them to combine. I’m a matchmaker, a couturier of the invisible. Yet, I ‘see’ my fragrances, each material, each accord vibrates with colors and sometimes these colors emit a sound. I don’t invent smell, like I neither invent pink nor indigo, they are present in our unconscious."
